Katherine Li

Katherine is a junior majoring in Civil Engineering (Environmental and Water Resources track) and pursuing a Certificate in Energy and the Environment. She loves creating art and different forms of media to communicate ideas that she finds important. In the future, she hopes to work on impactful research and engineering projects that have to do with providing access to clean water, addressing climate change, and environmental justice.

  • My room becoming a mess again within several hours after cleaning it 

  • Accidentally sleeping until 1pm every weekend

  • Regularly getting so stressed over schoolwork that I can't fall asleep 

  • Getting stressed over schoolwork but then procrastinating it for hours by watching TikToks

On the Bright Side

Memories I made when I wasn't working/studying

  • Hot pot and karaoke nights 

  • Jackbox game nights with friends and strangers 

  • Driving around town and commenting on the architecture of houses with my hometown friends 

  • Getting to interview a member of my favourite band 

  • Going to Tim Hortons and then spontaneously filming a music video in the middle of the night with friends 

  • Writing and producing original music just because I felt like it 

  • Building an igloo on East Campus in front of Marketplace 

  • Camping in my backyard with my sisters and ordering McDonald's

Things I've learned that will still matter in 10 years

  • A couple bad grades (and even many bad grades) do not affect the course of your life in any significant way 

  • Rest is a crucial part of sustaining the work that you care about 

  • Writing things down (to-dos, your thoughts, random ideas) helps to organize your life 

  • Mental health is just as important as physical health 

  • Success is a very subjective term, and it's important to create your own measures of success that don't have to do with position or status
